The original exchange saw Margolyes, 85, question Peters, 56, about his accent and background before wrongly suggesting he had a "black daddy and a white mummy" and later describing him as a "high yalla", a dated and offensive American term for a light-skinned black person. Peters appeared to receive a warning through his earpiece as producers intervened, and the segment was later removed from ITVX, with clips circulating widely online. Margolyes, promoting her memoir Miriam's Full English, has since said she did not intend to embarrass or hurt Peters and insisted her questions stemmed from genuine curiosity about identity and inclusion.
