## Summary

Washington Commanders defensive tackle Daron Payne is expected to miss the rest of the season after suffering a Jones fracture at Friday’s practice, ESPN reported. His loss removes a long-standing anchor from a defence already struggling, adding to the challenge facing a team with a 1-4-1 record.

Payne, a Pro Bowler drafted 13th overall in 2018, had 14 tackles and one sack in six games this season. Over his career, he has made 446 tackles and 38 sacks in 136 games, and has never missed more than two games in a season. Washington has conceded 28.7 points per game, the NFL’s second-worst figure, while allowing 100.5 rushing yards per game. Its next three games are against Philadelphia, the Los Angeles Rams and the New York Giants.
