Fox's animal-themed workplace comedy *Animal Control* has been steadily building an audience across both broadcast TV and Netflix, and critics argue it deserves wider recognition as one of the funnier sitcoms currently on air. Led by Joel McHale, formerly of *Community*, the show blends elements of *Community*, *Parks and Recreation* and *Brooklyn Nine-Nine*, and is said to have improved with each season, benefiting from time to find its footing and its fanbase.

The series follows staff at a Seattle animal control office as they handle call-outs, office politics and personal entanglements, with McHale playing guarded loner Frank Shaw, whose defences are tested by new partner Shred (Michael Rowland). The cast includes Vella Lovell, Ravi Patel, Grace Palmer and Gerry Dee, alongside recurring guest turns from McHale's real-life friend and former co-star Ken Jeong, plus stars such as Sarah Chalke and Rob Gronkowski. Kyla Pratt and Josh Segarra joined last year and return for season five, which debuts on Fox on 27 September, while all four existing seasons are already streaming on Netflix.
