Connecticut teen, 18, is found dead in pond as friends desperately search for answers

Daily Mail · 2 hours ago

An 18-year-old from Connecticut died after falling into Jenkins Pond in Falmouth, Massachusetts, while paddleboarding with a friend on Monday evening. Police said a 911 caller reported that the teenager had gone underwater and could not be located, prompting a rescue effort. The incident highlights the risks of water sports even on calmer inland waters, and comes amid a spate of recent fatal drowning incidents across the US.

Emergency services were called to the scene at around 5.50pm, deploying a boat to pull the teenager from the water before beginning life-saving measures. He was taken to Falmouth Hospital, where he died; his identity and cause of death had not been confirmed by Tuesday afternoon, and it is unclear whether his companion on the paddleboard was hurt. The death came a day after two men, aged 36 and 37, were found dead following a night-time canoe trip in Tomales Bay, California, where they had gone to view bioluminescence.
