- The escape was confirmed to local officers at 5.14am.
- A stolen pickup was found in Illinois, but Morley remained unlocated.

## Summary

Convicted murderer Jacob Allen Morley escaped from a Tennessee prison, and local police were not notified that he might be missing until more than five hours after prison staff realised he was unaccounted for. The delay has drawn criticism from a former federal prison warden, who said authorities should alert law enforcement immediately during an escape.

Staff at Northwest Correctional Complex noticed Morley was missing at about 11.30pm on Sunday; dispatch audio indicates he was last seen at around 4pm. Police were alerted at 4.40am on Monday, and the escape was confirmed to the department at 5.14am. Investigators say Morley took a pickup truck at about 1am; it was found abandoned in Marion, Illinois, early Tuesday, but he had not been located in the article’s account.
