## Key points

- World Triathlon has recognised Hyrox as a discipline.
- The partnership could support Hyrox’s future Olympic eligibility.
- Some triathletes question how the deal will benefit their sport.

## Summary

World Triathlon has partnered with Hyrox, the indoor fitness race that combines running with exercise stations, and recognised it as a discipline within the federation. The move could make Hyrox eligible for a future Olympic or Paralympic Games, raising concerns among some triathletes that it may draw attention and resources away from their sport.

British triathletes Max Stapley and Sophie Evans said they were surprised by the announcement and felt athletes had not been consulted beforehand. World Triathlon said athlete representatives sit on its executive board and that the partnership is intended to create opportunities for the wider sport. Hyrox began in 2017; it is too late for it to feature at Los Angeles 2028, and European champion Roksana Slupek said she wanted more detail about the benefits for triathlon.
