A murder investigation is under way after a man and woman were found stabbed to death at a house in Blackburn on Monday morning. A man in his 40s has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody, while police say they do not believe there is any wider risk to the public.

Lancashire Police were called to the property on Hardman Street at 8.22am by North West Ambulance Service after reports that two people had been found with stab injuries; both were pronounced dead at the scene. The couple, described by neighbours as elderly, private and members of a nearby mosque, have not yet been formally identified, and a Home Office post-mortem examination will take place in due course. A cordon and forensics tent were put up outside the house, with several back alleys also sealed off as detectives carry out door-to-door enquiries and appeal for CCTV, dashcam or doorbell footage from the past 24 hours.
