Coventry City have signed 18-year-old English defender Stephen Mfuni on a season-long loan from Manchester City, adding further reinforcement to Frank Lampard's squad following their promotion to the Premier League. Mfuni, who can play at both centre-back and left-back, becomes Lampard's 11th signing since Coventry secured top-flight promotion, reflecting a busy summer of squad-building as the club aims to establish itself in the league.

Mfuni made his senior debut for Manchester City as a substitute in last season's 10-1 FA Cup win over Exeter City and is an England Under-19 international. He spent last season on loan at Watford, making eight Championship appearances, before now joining Coventry, who currently sit 18th in the Premier League after opening defeats to Arsenal and Hull City. The Sky Blues face Manchester City, Mfuni's parent club, in their next fixture on 5 September.
