Coventry sign teenage Fenerbahce forward Cherif

BBC Sport · 3 hours ago

Coventry City have signed teenage forward Sidiki Cherif from Turkish club Fenerbahce on a long-term deal, as manager Frank Lampard continues an ambitious summer transfer window. The 19-year-old, born in Guinea and raised in France, brings European experience from the Champions League and Europa League, adding depth to Coventry's forward options as the club backs Lampard with a series of significant signings.

Cherif made two goals in 12 Turkish Super Lig appearances last season after moving to Fenerbahce from French side Angers on loan with an obligation to buy. He began his career at Angers, making his professional debut in 2023-24 and scoring four Ligue 1 goals by the end of December after their promotion, which attracted interest from clubs across Europe. He has represented France at Under-16 and Under-21 level, and his arrival follows other Coventry deals for players including Caleb Yirenkyi, Carl Rushworth, Loum Tchaouna, Aurele Amenda, Taiwo Awoniyi and returning midfielder Gustavo Hamer.
