Sony/Marvel’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day is expected to remain top of the North American box office for a fifth weekend, taking an estimated $18 million despite a 54% fall. Its continued strength comes as the summer box office approaches a potential record, although the comparison with 2013 is affected by this year’s longer summer period and fewer wide releases.

The main new releases are Ridley Scott’s post-apocalyptic thriller The Dog Stars and the rescued live-action/animation hybrid Coyote vs. Acme. The Dog Stars, starring Jacob Elordi and Josh Brolin, is projected to open at $10–14 million domestically from 3,300 cinemas against a reported $70 million production budget, following weak early reviews. Coyote vs. Acme, starring Will Forte and John Cena, reaches cinemas after Warner Bros. Discovery had previously planned to write off the completed film for tax purposes.
