Coyote vs. Acme is even funnier because Warner Bros. Discovery tried to kill it

The Verge · 3 hours ago

The Verge's review of Coyote vs. Acme argues the film is more entertaining precisely because of its troubled history, as Warner Bros. Discovery had originally shelved the finished movie to claim a tax write-off. The backlash that decision generated only heightened public interest, turning the film's release into a story about corporate decision-making as much as about the movie itself, with reviewer Charles Pulliam-Moore calling it one of the best Looney Tunes films in years.

The live-action/animated hybrid, loosely based on Ian Frazier's New Yorker piece, follows Wile E. Coyote suing Acme over its faulty products rather than simply plotting to catch the Road Runner. Will Forte and John Cena star as opposing lawyers, with Lana Condor also featured, in a script by James Gunn, Jeremy Slater and Samy Burch that blends slapstick gags with pointed satire of corporations resembling WBD, Apple, Tesla and Lockheed Martin. The review notes the film's set pieces and animation-live-action blend are strong, though its central story is fairly conventional.

  • Coyote vs. Acme reviewed positively despite WBD's attempt to shelve it
  • Film satirises corporations via Wile E. Coyote's lawsuit against Acme
  • Stars Will Forte, John Cena; written by James Gunn and others
