Cristiano Ronaldo has called for lifetime stadium bans after fans appeared to chant Diogo Jota's name at his former Wolves and Portugal teammate Rúben Neves during a Saudi Pro League match. The incident occurred as Neves' club, Al-Hilal, played away against Al-Taawoun, and has drawn strong condemnation from Ronaldo, who said such behaviour has no place in football and that those responsible should never be allowed into a stadium again.

The chants were heard on Saturday during the match in Buraydah, more than a year after Jota died in a car crash in Zamora, north-western Spain, alongside his brother André Silva. Neves, a close friend who served as a pallbearer at Jota's funeral, responded to the chants by gesturing towards his eye and up to the sky, later telling reporters he hoped those responsible would not go on to pray. Al-Hilal won the match 6-0, with Neves substituted after 75 minutes; Reuters has sought comment from both clubs.
