Crookhaven renewed for second season by BBC childrens drama

Deadline · 9 hours ago

The BBC has commissioned a second season of its children's drama Crookhaven, based on the bestselling books by J.J. Arcanjo. The renewal follows a strong debut, with the broadcaster promising to "go even deeper" into the show's lore, underlining its confidence in a homegrown original title aimed at younger audiences.

Season two once again centres on the tangled friendship between pickpocketing prodigy Gabriel (Lucas Leach) and Penelope (Carmel Laniado), daughter of headmaster Caspian Lockett (Dougray Scott), as the students, known as Crooklings, enter their second "Miscreant" year amid dangerous secrets, shifting alliances and betrayal. Created by Justin Young and produced by BBC Studios Kids & Family with support from Northern Ireland Screen, filming begins this summer in Northern Ireland for a launch on BBC television and iPlayer next year. Season one was the highest-performing CBBC show on iPlayer in 2026 so far, reaching an average audience of 653,000 after 28 days.
