## Key points

- Machado has returned to Venezuela after over 10 months away.
- Supporters gathered in Lara and Caracas to welcome her.
- Her return follows major changes in the country’s leadership.

## Summary

The new development is María Corina Machado’s return to Venezuela after more than 10 months in exile, where she was met by cheering supporters. Her appearance comes amid a major political upheaval and marks a public return after earlier attempts to re-enter the country failed.

Machado attended Mass in Lara state before crowds lined her route through Caracas. She had left Venezuela under cover of darkness to accept the Nobel Peace Prize in Norway; the article says the United States seized President Nicolás Maduro last January and backed his deputy, Delcy Rodríguez, as interim president.
