Chicago Cubs relief pitcher Trent Thornton lost his temper in the dugout after being pulled mid-inning during a 9-5 defeat to the Milwaukee Brewers at Wrigley Field on Wednesday night. The outburst came as the Cubs battled through a tight National League Central series against their divisional rivals, though Thornton's frustration did not end up costing his side further, as reliever Ryan Rolison retired the next two batters to prevent additional damage.

Thornton entered in the fourth inning and struck out a batter to escape a jam, but ran into trouble in the fifth, allowing three consecutive baserunners after an initial strikeout. Manager Craig Counsell pulled him from the game, prompting Thornton to storm into the dugout, hurl his glove and swear loudly. The 32-year-old, in his first Cubs season, has otherwise pitched well, posting a 3.40 ERA with three saves in 44 appearances. The loss dropped the Cubs (78-62) to two defeats in the first three games of a four-game series against the Brewers (87-53), with the sides due to meet again on Thursday.
