A finance executive at Interscope Capitol Labels Group testified on Wednesday that singer D4vd (David Anthony Burke) earned more than $7.5 million from his record deal before being charged with the murder of 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez. The testimony came during the second day of a preliminary hearing at which prosecutors are seeking to establish that D4vd's flourishing music career gave him a motive to kill Rivas, allegedly to stop her exposing their illegal sexual relationship days before his debut album's release.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney's office must convince a judge there is sufficient evidence, on a "probable cause" standard, to send the case to trial. A witness from D4vd's management firm estimated his total gross earnings, including publishing and merchandise, at $10 million to $11.5 million. Earlier testimony from investigators indicated D4vd was the last person to drive the Tesla in which Rivas's dismembered body was later found, and that he had ordered three chainsaws after her death. D4vd, 21, has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder, child sexual abuse and mutilating a body, with his lawyers vowing to "vigorously defend" him.
