Unauthorised access to D4vd's Apple Music account resulted in the upload of a song titled 'I Did It' during a weekend whilst the artist remained incarcerated pending murder charges. D4vd, whose legal name is David Anthony Burke, faces allegations of murdering and sexually abusing a teenager whose remains were discovered in a vehicle registered to him. The uploaded track incorporated imagery associated with the case and apparently derived from an earlier unreleased recording that had circulated online previously. Apple Music removed the content after its discovery.

This breach illustrates a systemic weakness affecting major streaming services globally. Criminals and fraudsters exploit the largely automated distribution systems to introduce counterfeit recordings under legitimate artists' names or closely mimicked variations, collecting royalties illicitly. The problem proves substantial in scale: one major platform documented removal of tens of millions of suspicious uploads over twelve months, whilst record labels have sought elimination of hundreds of thousands of impersonation submissions. Industry responses, including artist account verification tools, have been deployed but security gaps continue to surface.
