## Key points

- My Chemical Romance will drop the costumes at two remaining shows.
- The cheerleaders’ lawsuit cites alleged fan confusion on social media.
- A 1979 ruling over *Debbie Does Dallas* may shape the dispute.

## Summary

My Chemical Romance have agreed to stop using Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders costumes at their remaining Hollywood Bowl shows on 30 and 31 October. The change follows a lawsuit in which the cheerleaders’ company sought a restraining order, and legal experts say a 1979 case involving the film *Debbie Does Dallas* could make the band’s defence more difficult.

The October 23 filing by the cheerleaders and parent company Pro Silver Star also names Live Nation and seeks a preliminary injunction and unspecified damages. It says social media posts show some fans mistook the dancers’ white shorts, tall boots and blue-starred tops for the real squad; the band had not commented in the article. In the earlier case, a court barred use of a similar uniform, finding audiences need only believe the cheerleaders sponsored or approved the film.
