Danny Boyle’s tabloid drama Ink to open Venice Film Festival
Danny Boyle's new film "Ink" will open the 83rd Venice Film Festival in September, premiering in the competition section. The film dramatises Rupert Murdoch's creation of The Sun newspaper in 1969 and its transformation, under editor Larry Lamb, into Britain's best-selling tabloid, ahead of rivals such as the Daily Mirror. The project marks a high-profile reunion for Boyle, whose casting and pedigree have drawn praise from festival organisers.
The film stars Jack O'Connell as Larry Lamb, Guy Pearce as Rupert Murdoch and Claire Foy as Jules Davies, with a screenplay by Olivier award-winning writer James Graham. The Venice Film Festival runs from 2 to 12 September 2026, and Boyle produces alongside Tessa Ross and Michael Ellenberg, reuniting Boyle and Ross after "Slumdog Millionaire". Studiocanal, Media Res and House Productions are behind the film, with Studiocanal handling theatrical release in the UK, Italy, France, Germany, Poland, Benelux, Australia and New Zealand.
