Danny Boyle’s tabloid drama Ink to open Venice Film Festival
Danny Boyle's "Ink" will open the 83rd Venice Film Festival in September, premiering in the main competition section, festival organisers have confirmed. The film dramatises Rupert Murdoch's acquisition of The Sun newspaper in 1969 and its transformation under editor Larry Lamb into Britain's best-selling tabloid, overtaking rival the Daily Mirror. Newly released comments from Boyle and Venice artistic director Alberto Barbera underline the film's high-profile pedigree, with Barbera praising its Oscar-winning director, acclaimed playwright and leading British cast.
The film stars Jack O'Connell as Larry Lamb, Guy Pearce as Rupert Murdoch and Claire Foy as Jules Davies, from a screenplay by Olivier award-winning writer James Graham. The Venice Film Festival runs from 2 to 12 September 2026. Boyle produces with Tessa Ross and Michael Ellenberg, reuniting Boyle and Ross after "Slumdog Millionaire", alongside Tracey Seaward, with Studiocanal, Media Res and House Productions behind the project; Studiocanal will release it theatrically across the UK, Italy, France, Germany, Poland, Benelux, Australia and New Zealand, with Lucky Red distributing in Italy.
