David Boreanaz, best known for SEAL Team and Bones, is set to star in NBC's reboot of The Rockford Files, playing the iconic private investigator Jim Rockford, a role originally made famous by James Garner. NBC has confirmed the show will secure the network's Thursday 8pm ET slot, a berth that has historically proven a strong launchpad for new dramas, with the series due to premiere in the January midseason.

Boreanaz's Rockford is depicted as a newly paroled investigator, wrongfully imprisoned, who returns to Los Angeles and draws on contacts made in prison to solve cases, while clashing with police and an organised crime syndicate. He is joined by Michaela McManus as his ex-partner and LAPD detective Kate, Jacki Weaver as his neighbour and activist, and Felix Solis as his confidant and defense-attorney ally, Nitty. Boreanaz has confirmed the first season will run for 13 episodes, a shorter order than long-running NBC franchises like One Chicago and Law & Order, though such counts are increasingly common for new dramas and could be extended if the show performs well.
