David Harbour Talks Learning ASL for ‘DTF St. Louis,’ Shares a Line From ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ and Wants a Christopher Nolan-Directed ‘Warcraft’ Movie
David Harbour has discussed his Emmy-nominated turn as Floyd in "DTF St. Louis," a role built around four months of daily American Sign Language practice. It marks his first Emmy acting nomination since 2017 and his first in the limited series category, this time as an executive producer through his own production company, Bravo Axolotl.
Harbour, 51, trained with ASL coaches in New York and Atlanta until he could hold conversations, describing the process as rewiring a different part of his brain compared with speaking French. He singled out a one-take interpretive dance scene, watched by fellow nominees Jason Bateman and Linda Cardellini, as a standout moment, and noted that "DTF St. Louis" has earned 13 Emmy nominations overall, which he says feels more meaningful than his solo recognition for "Stranger Things" in 2017.
