## Key points

- Ashley Moody held her Florida Senate seat amid Republican losses.
- Her campaign stressed accountability and the American dream.
- Republicans disagree over why voters turned away.

## Summary

Ashley Moody retained her Florida Senate seat despite Republican losses across the country, and the article argues her victory could offer the party a model for recovery. The author says her campaign’s focus on government accountability and protecting the American dream resonated with voters, helping Moody stand out in a difficult election.

Moody had previously won statewide office as Florida attorney general, including re-election by a 21-point margin in 2022, and the article contrasts her record with other Republican candidates who lost. With Republicans expected to lose seven to nine Senate seats, it says Moody may gain seniority more quickly. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis credits Republican losses to frustrated supporters staying home, while Vice-President JD Vance has suggested voters turned to Democrats over Iran and Israel policy.
