David Tennant is Officially Returning to ‘Doctor Who’
David Tennant is set to return as the Tenth Doctor in a new series of Big Finish audio dramas, offering a bright spot for fans after a turbulent period for Doctor Who. The BBC sci-fi series has faced falling ratings, the collapse of its Disney partnership and Ncuti Gatwa's apparent early exit, culminating in the show being put out to competitive tender and the promised 2026 Christmas special being scrapped.
Tennant will star in 12 new full-cast Big Finish stories, with Anjli Mohindra reprising her Sarah Jane Adventures role as Rani for the first three instalments. The audio adventures will be released bimonthly starting in August 2027. Both actors expressed enthusiasm about returning to their roles, with Tennant remarking that "Big Finish makes it dangerously easy… you turn up, have a lovely time, and suddenly you've saved the universe again."
