Davis ‘grateful’ for support over cancer diagnosis
Actress Lucy Davis has told fans she is "grateful" for their support, making her first public appearance since revealing she has incurable breast cancer. She appeared at the For The Love of Fantasy & Sci-Fi convention at Excel London on Saturday, less than two weeks after announcing her diagnosis on Instagram, and spoke warmly of the sense of community among fans of Shaun of the Dead, the 2004 zombie-comedy in which she starred.
Davis, 53, revealed on 11 August that she has stage four breast cancer that has metastasised to her bones, meaning chemotherapy is no longer an option. At the convention she appeared on a panel alongside director Edgar Wright and co-star Simon Pegg, signed autographs and reminisced about filming, though she was not asked directly about her health. Best known as Dawn Tinsley in the BBC's The Office and the daughter of comedian Jasper Carrott, she also offered fans encouragement about pursuing careers in film.
