## Summary

Glen Schofield, best known as the creator of Dead Space, has said he is retiring from the day-to-day work of making games after about 35 years in the industry. The announcement matters because he has been involved in several influential projects across horror and action games, so his decision marks the close of a long career in a prominent part of modern games development. Unless he returns in some capacity later, Rock Paper Shotgun says 2022’s The Callisto Protocol is likely to stand as his final game.

Schofield announced his decision in a video posted on LinkedIn, where he thanked fans, colleagues and other developers for their support over the years. He said he had spent 35 years making and directing games and leading teams, and described himself as having had a front-row seat to a major creative period for the medium. The article says his career began in the early 1990s and included work spanning titles and series such as Dead Space, Call of Duty, Disney World racing games and The Callisto Protocol. He also said that, although the industry is currently going through a difficult period, he believes its future remains bright.
