- Republicans debate the Iran war’s role in their losses.

## Summary

Trump has said he intends to keep Pete Hegseth as defence secretary, even as reports describe him consulting advisers about Hegseth’s future after Republican midterm losses. Hegseth has also posted a video rejecting impeachment efforts and saying he will not back down, keeping attention on his position in the administration.

Hegseth called the Iran war a “historic and courageous effort”, while the article says some Republicans blame the conflict for the party’s losses. Republican Thomas Massie plans to force a House impeachment vote, and incoming Democrats may pursue another effort. The report says Trump has heard calls about Hegseth and that a possible Senate appointment has been discussed as a way to confirm a successor before Democrats take control of the chamber in January.
