Georgia child welfare chief accuses Ossoff of exploiting foster children for campaign
Georgia Senator Jon Ossoff, a Democrat facing a closely watched re-election contest, has been accused by the state's top child welfare official of exploiting vulnerable children for political gain. The row followed the release of Ossoff's campaign advertisement, titled "Our Kids", which highlights his role in a bipartisan investigation into Georgia's troubled foster care system. The dispute matters because it turns a serious child welfare issue into a campaign flashpoint in one of the most competitive Senate races in the United States.
Candice Broce, director of Georgia's Division of Family and Children Services (DFCS), said on X that Ossoff was overstating his role and was "nowhere to be found" on foster care reform, arguing he had failed to secure extra funding, federal support or legal fixes. Ossoff's campaign hit back, branding Broce an "unqualified partisan political hack" guilty of "dangerous incompetence", and pointed to oversight work cited in the ad which it said found children were likely sex-trafficked while in state care.
