## Summary

Texas state Representative Gina Hinojosa has defeated three-term Republican Governor Greg Abbott, according to the article’s election projection, ending Democrats’ 36-year losing streak in Texas gubernatorial races. Her victory would make her the state’s first Latina governor, while Abbott conceded and congratulated her.

Hinojosa, a civil rights lawyer and former Austin school board president, campaigned on education funding, teacher pay, opposing school vouchers and lowering household costs. Abbott focused on affordability, including plans to reduce property taxes and other expenses, and on opposing socialism; Donald Trump blamed Abbott’s defeat on his recent political approach.
