- Suspect Patrick Havas, 38, arrested and charged with felony assault

## Summary

Democratic candidate for Ohio governor Dr Amy Acton was targeted by an armed man who lunged towards her as she addressed supporters at a fair in Canfield, in the north-east of the state, on Sunday. Acton and her husband, Eric, were unhurt, though two elderly bystanders were knocked to the ground during the incident, which drew swift condemnation from figures across the political spectrum amid growing unease over political violence ahead of Ohio's closely contested governor's race.

The suspect, named as 38-year-old Patrick Havas of Canfield, was found to be carrying two firearms and a set of brass knuckles, although he did not draw a weapon; he was holding either a phone or a camera as he approached Acton at around 2.45pm, according to Mahoning County Sheriff Jerry Greene. Havas was arrested at the scene and charged with felony assault and disorderly conduct, while the injured bystanders were assessed but declined further medical treatment. Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and Republican gubernatorial rival Vivek Ramaswamy's campaign both condemned the attack, and Acton's campaign thanked first responders for their swift response.
