Democratic Maryland Gov Wes Moore praises Trump Accounts as ‘smart policy’
Maryland's Democratic Governor Wes Moore has praised the Trump administration's new "Trump Accounts" — child investment accounts — as "smart policy", crediting the administration for achieving something successive Democratic and Republican presidents had failed to deliver. His endorsement is notable because it marks a rare instance of a prominent Democrat commending part of Donald Trump's agenda, even as Moore continued to criticise other elements of it.
Speaking on "The Clay Cane Show" podcast on Tuesday, Moore likened the accounts to "baby bonds", a policy that Democrats and progressive advocates have championed for roughly a decade as a means of helping children accumulate wealth over time. He argued the accounts could give children a financial asset that grows to maturity, offering a route to economic mobility and helping to tackle both child poverty and the racial wealth gap.
