## Summary

Janeese Lewis George has won Washington DC’s mayoral race by a wide margin and says she is willing to work with President Donald Trump’s administration when it benefits residents. She also said she would challenge the administration where necessary, setting up a relationship that could involve both cooperation and disagreement.

The 38-year-old council member received nearly 85% of the ranked-choice vote, defeating Green Party candidate Robert Gross and independent Rhonda Hamilton. She plans an early review of District agencies’ spending, savings and handling of funds. Lewis George will succeed Muriel Bowser, who has been mayor since 2015 and is not seeking re-election; Trump had criticised Lewis George’s politics and said he would oppose parts of her agenda.
