Memphis Depay has accused Corinthians of unacceptable behaviour after the Brazilian club chose not to renew his contract, despite what he says was a previously agreed extension. The dispute matters because the Netherlands forward has threatened to take action to protect his interests, while Corinthians says the decision was necessary for its financial sustainability.

Depay, 32, joined Corinthians in 2024 after leaving Atletico Madrid and scored 20 goals in 79 matches, helping the club win the 2025 Copa do Brasil and this year’s Supercopa do Brasil. Corinthians, seventh in Brazil’s Serie A, said a new deal of that size would threaten its financial balance; president Osmar Stabile is due to address the matter publicly.
