Students in the United States have provoked widespread anger by filming themselves reenacting the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk in school hallways and classrooms, timed to the first anniversary of his killing. The videos, part of a disturbing social media trend, show participants pretending to shoot one another with finger guns before snapping their heads sideways and breaking into a choreographed dance, mimicking Kirk's involuntary reaction after being shot in the throat. The trend has drawn condemnation from politicians and commentators who say it trivialises a real killing for online attention, regardless of political views on Kirk.

Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA, was 31 when he was shot dead at an outdoor event at Utah Valley University on 10 September 2025 while taking questions during his organisation's American Comeback Tour. The clips, some captioned "Happy Kirkaversary", use audio blending the tribute song "We Are Charlie Kirk" with Soulja Boy's "Crank That", and one has been shared by the conservative account Libs of TikTok. Republican congresswoman Nancy Mace called the trend "cruelty choreographed for clicks", while 24-year-old Naima Troutt, who once debated Kirk publicly, faced separate backlash after posting her own video referencing his final words and the gunshot as part of an Instagram outfit post, which she defended as "how I grieve".
