Desperate search for missing Aussie mum who mysteriously vanished without her newborn baby
The family of Jana Armstrong, a 30-year-old mother from Toowoomba in southeast Queensland, have made a public appeal for information after she disappeared on Tuesday afternoon. She was last seen at a unit on Gordon Avenue in the suburb of Newtown, leaving behind her four-month-old baby, and relatives say the disappearance is entirely out of character. Police and the State Emergency Service have launched a search, and both officers and loved ones say they are concerned for her welfare.
Armstrong's white Hyundai Kona was found nearby on the corner of Jellicoe Street and Gordon Avenue at around 6am on Wednesday. Forensic officers were reported to have attended a home on Gordon Avenue, and neighbours saw police speaking to a man before he was driven away in a marked police car. Armstrong's sister has confirmed the baby is safe and in her care, and has urged anyone with information to contact police. A friend described Armstrong, who worked as a carer, as "an angel on Earth". On Thursday, police and SES crews searched multiple areas of Toowoomba, including Black Gully Reserve.
