Dexter and the Moonrocks Announce New Album Friends That I Don’t Like, Reveal “It’s A Lot”: Stream
Texas rock band Dexter and the Moonrocks have announced their debut studio album, Friends That I Don't Like, due out on 2 October, alongside a new single, "It's A Lot". The group, who broke through with the viral grunge track "Freakin' Out", say the record draws on their small-town Texan upbringing and refuses to fit neatly into a single genre, blending alt-rock, grunge, southern rock and country in what they have dubbed "Western Space Grunge".
Drummer Ryan Fox said the band had long resisted pressure to pick a lane between the Texas honky-tonk and metal scenes, describing the album as embracing their identity as "blue-collar rockers from small-town Texas". The new single continues the nostalgic, gritty sound of "Freakin' Out", with singer James Tuffs' raspy vocals and a strut reminiscent of Lit's "My Own Worst Enemy", and arrives with an accompanying music video. The band will also mark the announcement with their network television debut, performing "Freakin' Out" on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
