DevilDriver and Coal Chamber frontman Dez Fafara has publicly corrected media reports that he has a brain tumour or brain cancer, clarifying that his tumour is non-cancerous and located near a salivary gland, not in his brain. He took to Instagram to set the record straight after several music outlets misreported details he had shared on "The Garza Podcast", stressing that the mistake illustrates how misinformation spreads online.

Fafara said doctors discovered the growth almost two years ago after he suffered a vertigo episode and was rushed to hospital, where an MRI revealed the tumour; a biopsy on Christmas Eve 2024 confirmed it was not cancerous. He explained it sits in a delicate area near facial nerves controlling smiling and blinking, meaning it cannot be operated on until it grows further, though check-ups every nine months have shown no growth and possibly slight shrinkage. Fafara, who nearly died from COVID-19 in 2021 and whose health issues previously led to cancelled Coal Chamber tour dates and a scrapped Bloodstock Open Air appearance, said he decided to share his health update to encourage others facing adversity. DevilDriver's new album, "Strike And Kill", was released on 10 July via Napalm Records.
