UK diesel prices have reached a record average of 199.18p a litre, surpassing the previous high set in June 2022. The rise is adding pressure to households and businesses, while President Donald Trump is considering US fuel export restrictions that could further unsettle prices and affect British drivers.

The RAC says filling an average family car with diesel now costs almost £110, about £31 more than at the start of the US-Iran conflict; petrol averages 174.13p a litre, around 41p higher. The extent of any US restrictions is not known, and economists warn that while they might lower US prices initially, they could push prices higher over time. Fuel duty contributes 52.95p per litre, and a planned 5p rise has been postponed until the end of the year.
