Director of Sydney Sweeney’s Best R-Rated Thriller Officially Finds Next Movie

Collider · 2 months ago

Director Paul Feig, who helmed the surprise hit thriller The Housemaid starring Sydney Sweeney, has lined up his next project: a horror thriller titled Detention for Blumhouse's Atomic Monster. The move is notable because the new film is reportedly set to be "even darker" than The Housemaid, marking a further shift for Feig, who built his reputation on comedies before turning to thrillers.

Plot details for Detention are being kept secret, but the script comes from Canadian screenwriter Daniel Gold, previously a writer on the CBC comedy Workin' Moms, continuing a trend of comedy talents such as Jordan Peele and Zach Cregger moving into horror. The project originated at Jason Blum's Atomic Monster and will also be produced by Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes; no release date has been set. Meanwhile, The Housemaid took some $400 million at the box office, and Feig is set to return for the sequel, The Housemaid's Secret, based on Freida McFadden's second novel, which will co-star Kirsten Dunst and Paul Anthony Kelly and reach cinemas on 17 December 2027.
