Disney+ and Hulu raise ad-free plan prices to £21.50 a month
Disney has raised the prices of Disney+ and Hulu's ad-free standalone plans by 13 per cent, bringing them to £21.50 per month, making them more expensive than Netflix's standard offering. The company also increased prices across various bundle options, including those featuring ESPN. These increases mark Disney's fourth price rise in four years and form part of a broader strategy to achieve streaming profitability as the company seeks to compete more aggressively in the market.
The ad-free plans for both services rose from £19 to £21.50 monthly, whilst ad-supported tiers increased modestly from £12 to £12.50. Bundle prices saw more substantial increases, with the Disney+ and Hulu bundle without ads rising from £20 to £22 per month, and the triple bundle without ads jumping from £29 to £33. Despite having far fewer subscribers than Netflix (131.6 million for Disney+ and 59.7 million for Hulu, compared to Netflix's 325 million), Disney's combined operating income from these services surged 116 per cent year-on-year to $712 million, significantly exceeding their previous earnings.
