Disney+ has secured a multimillion-pound rights and title-sponsorship deal for Gary Neville’s The Overlap, bringing its football podcasts to the streaming service while leaving their YouTube availability unchanged. The move intensifies competition with Gary Lineker’s Netflix-backed The Rest is Football and signals the growing value of independent football-media brands to major streamers.

Disney+ will broadcast 40 episodes of Stick to Football and 50 of the new Stick to United, co-presented by Wayne Rooney and Mark Goldbridge, then commission 20 additional subscriber-first episodes of Stick to Football. It has also bought a Rooney family documentary, The Real Rooneys; The Overlap reports 38 million monthly YouTube views after 2.2 billion views across platforms in 2025, while Netflix renewed Lineker’s show after its World Cup run.

  • Disney+ acquires The Overlap’s podcast rights in a multimillion-pound deal.
  • Rooney and Goldbridge will front a new Manchester United-focused programme.
  • The Overlap remains on YouTube while expanding to Disney+

The Overlap is a football media company founded by former Manchester United and England defender Gary Neville. Its shows feature players, managers and pundits discussing matches, clubs and their experiences, and have built a large audience mainly through free videos and podcasts online.

Neville is joined on different programmes by well-known football figures, including former England striker Wayne Rooney, while Mark Goldbridge is a prominent online football commentator. Disney+ is a subscription streaming service owned by Disney, which already carries sport-related documentaries and entertainment alongside its wider catalogue.

The deal reflects a wider shift in which major streaming services are investing in football discussion shows as well as live sport. Another example is The Rest is Football, led by former England striker Gary Lineker and backed by Netflix, showing how established football personalities are creating media brands outside traditional television.
