Disney Expected to Sell 50% Stake in A+E to Hearst for More Than $1 Billion
Disney is expected to sell its 50% stake in A+E Global Media to joint-venture partner Hearst for more than $1 billion, giving Hearst full ownership of the cable-focused broadcaster. The move would further reduce Disney’s exposure to traditional television networks as it reshapes its media portfolio.
The all-cash deal is expected to be completed and announced alongside Disney’s quarterly earnings on 5 August. Disney carried its A+E investment at about $2 billion in March 2026 and recorded a $147 million impairment charge; A+E chairman and president Paul Buccieri is expected to remain in charge, reporting to Hearst chief executive Steve Swartz. A+E owns networks including A&E, Lifetime, History, FYI and Vice TV, plus production businesses and streaming services.
