Disney gives TikTok creators official access to Marvel, Star Wars, and Pixar characters

The Verge · 3 hours ago

Disney is partnering with TikTok to bring officially sanctioned fan-made content to Disney Plus, marking its latest push into short-form creator video. The deal will let opted-in TikTok creators use assets from "hundreds" of Disney movies and TV shows, including characters from Marvel, Star Wars and Pixar, with their videos hosted on both TikTok and Disney Plus's "Verts" feed, the short-form video hub Disney launched earlier this year.

The partnership will initially be piloted in the US "in the coming months", with expansion to other markets planned later. Disney says participating creators will receive perks such as greater visibility, exclusive event access and career development support. The move follows an earlier, since-abandoned plan for a similar arrangement with OpenAI's now-defunct Sora video generator, and Disney has not said whether AI tools will be excluded from the new TikTok programme.
