Disney Has Met With Macaulay Culkin About New Home Alone Movie: Report

Consequence · 6 hours ago

Disney has reportedly held talks with actor Macaulay Culkin about reviving the Home Alone franchise, according to industry journalist Matt Belloni. Culkin, who played Kevin McAllister in the original 1990 film, was spotted on Disney's studio lot, with Belloni claiming the studio is keen to relaunch the beloved Christmas comedy series and would offer Culkin a separate passion project in exchange for his involvement.

The renewed interest follows Culkin sharing his own pitch for a sequel during a nationwide tour last year marking the film's 35th anniversary, in which he envisioned playing a widowed or divorced father whose own son locks him out and sets traps, mirroring the original plot. Belloni described the concept as "really good" and said a successful reboot could prove hugely lucrative, noting the original film remains a perennial streaming favourite each Christmas. Culkin, who spent years distancing himself from the role, has recently embraced it through adverts for Google, Uber Eats and Home Instead, alongside a wider career resurgence in American Horror Story, The Righteous Gemstones and Fallout.
