Disney touts ‘core pillar’ games like Kingdom Hearts and Marvel Rivals as crucial for its ‘next chapter’
Disney says its games business is now a central part of its growth strategy, helping it attract younger audiences and keep established fans engaged across its major franchises. Ahead of the D23 Expo, the company highlighted games such as Kingdom Hearts, Marvel Rivals and Fortnite collaborations as important to Disney’s next phase in interactive entertainment.
Disney Games Group reportedly generates $3.5 billion in annual consumer spending, with nine titles having each grossed more than $1 billion, including Kingdom Hearts and Marvel Strike Force. Marvel Rivals has reached 40 million players worldwide, 60% of whom are under 24, while Disney expects to share more on Kingdom Hearts 4 and its still-unrevealed Fortnite experience at D23.
