Disney’s Most Iconic Ride Is Officially Getting a New Sci-Fi Series
Disney+ has officially ordered a pilot for a new sci-fi television series based on Spaceship Earth, the iconic EPCOT attraction housed in the park's giant silver sphere landmark. The project marks a rare foray into TV for Disney's ride-based adaptations, an area far less explored than film, where the company has had mixed success with titles like the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, Jungle Cruise, Tomorrowland and two Haunted Mansion films.
The series has assembled a notable creative team, with Jason Fuchs (IT: Welcome to Derry) serving as showrunner, Michael Waldron (Loki) as executive producer, and Lee Toland Krieger (You) directing the pilot, with 20th Television producing. Early plot details indicate the show will follow a group of teenagers from different points in the past and future who team up to prevent a universe-ending catastrophe, echoing the original ride's journey through humanity's technological history since EPCOT opened in 1982.
