Disney+ is expanding its animated anthology Star Wars: Visions with a first official spin-off series, Star Wars: Visions Presents — The Ninth Jedi, which will run for eight episodes. The show continues the story of Lah Kara as she and her companions try to rebuild the Jedi Order, building on two standalone episodes from the anthology that were praised for original ideas, such as kyber crystals changing colour according to a wielder's moral character. Its arrival matters because it marks the first time Visions material has been spun off into a dedicated series rather than remaining a one-off entry in the anthology.

Speaking exclusively to Collider, directors Kenji Kamiyama and Shunsuke Tada and producer Hitoshi Itô discussed the influences shaping the new series' many lightsaber duels. Kamiyama cited The Empire Strikes Back, recalling how Han Solo's brief use of Luke's lightsaber reshaped his childhood understanding of the weapon. Itô, representing a younger generation of writers raised on the prequels, said the fourth episode contains a sequence directly inspired by Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi's climactic duel in Revenge of the Sith, reflecting the prequel trilogy's reputation for the franchise's strongest fight choreography.
