On 30 May, registered nurse Yanira Eguileor was attacked by patient Rubin Wenyou, 44, inside Jackson Memorial Hospital's emergency department in Miami. Surveillance footage captured Wenyou chasing medical workers through the ER before repeatedly punching Eguileor in the head and throwing her to the ground. The incident matters because it highlights workplace safety concerns in healthcare settings and has prompted a significant legal dispute between the nurse and the hospital over security protocols.

Eguileor suffered bruising and injuries to her head, neck, spine and back, requiring medical imaging at the hospital where she works. Her attorney alleges the hospital provided no security protection during the assault, whilst Jackson Health disputes this, stating it employs four dedicated safety specialists in the emergency room 24 hours daily and two off-duty deputies on campus. The prosecutor dropped the initial felony battery charge against Wenyou, and Eguileor is now pursuing a £5 million lawsuit against Jackson Memorial and the county, alleging negligent supervision and inadequate security. Despite the trauma, the nurse has indicated she still wishes to continue working at the hospital.
