Colorado governor candidate Victor Marx faces scrutiny over past account of slamming wife into door

Daily Mail ·

Victor Marx, the Republican nominee for Colorado governor, faces fresh scrutiny after a resurfaced podcast recording from 2021 captured him laughing whilst describing grabbing his wife and slamming her into their front door early in their marriage. The incident draws attention to his character and fitness for office, particularly as he is running against Democratic Attorney General Phil Weiser in a race currently categorised as safely Democratic.

In the 2021 interview on The Protector Nation, Marx recalled that his wife had stopped martial arts training because she was married to a "black belt Marine." He described what he characterised as a "decent push" where he grabbed her and slammed her into the door, causing her to hit the surface, bend over and begin crying—an account he recounted whilst appearing to laugh. Marx has since posted a defence video claiming the comments were taken out of context, but the resurfaced account adds to a broader pattern of Marx publicly recounting violent encounters, including a 2020 interview where he described throwing his toddler-aged son across a room, and various other incidents involving physical force. At a 2023 Turning Point USA pastors summit, Marx stated: "I feel like God gave me a gift for violence, against a manifestation of evil."
