DJ Quik Says His Son ‘Made a Mistake’ Following Murder Conviction, Pleads With Fans to Stop Asking About It
Producer DJ Quik has spoken publicly about the second-degree murder conviction of his son, David Marvin Blake Jr., during an interview with TSR Live. Quik said his son was "hanging in there" and maintaining a positive outlook, while claiming Blake had been "scapegoated" and describing the trial as chaotic. He also urged fans to stop asking him about the case when they encounter him in public, admitting he becomes too emotional to respond kindly.
Blake was convicted in December over a 2022 shooting in a Los Angeles suburb that killed 33-year-old Julio Moises Cardoza Jr., and was sentenced in February to 15 years to life. Quik revealed that an appeal has been filed and that Blake's lawyer has been "diligent" about it. He said his son has accepted responsibility for his role, adding that Blake "made a mistake," and noted the judge had commended Blake for 27 years without any police interaction.
